Fast and Furious 7 Analysis

FAST AND FURIOUS 7 OPENING SCENE: - Company logo. - Title of the film. - Opening credits. - Non-deigetic music at the beginning reinforces the genre and builds up suspense. - Includes some de-saturated lighting. - The protagonist is introduced through the use of a POV shot, in order to maybe help signify to the audience the character's interests. - The fact that the protagonist is introduced so early on in the film may mean he is an important character within the narrative. - We can see through the use of mise-en-scene that the protagonist is smartly dressed, confident and perhaps a bit intimidating giving away his personality and role within the film and to also establish the genre. - The non-diegetic music played within the hospital room bit, is mellow but dramatic in order to engage the audience's attention.

Spider-Man Analysis

SPIDER- MAN OPENING SCENE: - Company logos. - Title of the film. - Opening credits - in a particular order with the main star's name being showed first. - De-saturated lighting and red and blue colours used to match the theme/genre of the film. - Non-diegetic music played in order to build up suspense for the audience. - The use of the spider-web illustrations helps to signify the genre of the film, the target audience and the narrative without giving too much away. - The main character is introduced through the use of a voiceover and to also set the scene, this helps the audience to gain a deeper understanding on the character and the character's traits and perhaps his interests. - The first character that is introduced to us, helps the audience to predict his importance within the rest of the film.

The Greatest Showman Analysis

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN OPENING SCENE: - Company logo. - Title of film and opening credits in a particular font to perhaps reflect the genre of the film and when it was set. - The storyline is given away in forms of mise-en-scene for example the character's costumes, setting and music type etc.  - The genre is given away by the dramatic lighting and editing e.g. theatre lighting and the synchronous sound with the editing pace etc.  - The main character is introduced by being in practically every shot including the first one showing that he is important within the film, and he is also the lead singer of the song intro which reinforces his importance. - The diegetic music being played not only helps to build up the scene but also gives the audience an insight to the type of film they are watching, which in this case is a musical.

Introduction: Opening Scene Analysis

To start off my research and planning, I will be looking at the various similarities and differences that are found within opening sequences. I am going to look at films from a variety of different genres to see if the conventions are roughly the same regardless of genre. The films I will be looking at are "The Greatest Showman", "Spider-Man", "Fast and Furious 7", "Dear John" and "Now You See Me".
